Blogging Sucks Without Doing This!
After reading a very stimulating post about the importance of monetizing blogs, I thought to myself about the number one thing most bloggers should consider doing when blogging. A lot of bloggers miss this point that I am about to mention completely. They do not recognize the importance of this, nor the profit potential of this one thing that can take your blog traffic, as well as your blog income to the next level.
So what is this thing that I am talking about?
Well, let me be upfront by telling you that it is the number one asset that I truly believe every online marketer should be building.
And that asset is known as the email list.
It is imperative for bloggers to understand that the only way they are going to truly capitalize off of all the traffic coming to their blog is if they capture that traffic in the form of leads or subscribers.
Yaro Starak, of the Blog Mastermind, said it precisely. If you are going to have a blog, you should use it for the specific purpose of funneling targeted traffic to your site so that you can build an email list.
If you do not make an attempt to do this, then I am sorry to say this…but your blogging sucks!
Isn’t the purpose of blogging to build a loyal readership that will frequent your website?
If so, why not capture these leads as email subscribers so that you can pretty much guarantee that these readers would frequently visit your website or blog.
Every post that you create and submit, should in someway, promote your landing page so that you can build your targeted email list.
The reason why so many bloggers with very good traffic do not make a lot of money is because they do not focus on building their list.
Greater trust and relationships can be formed when you continue to provide informative content and newsletters to your email subscribers.
But to end this off, if someone gave me the choice of choosing between 1000 blog subscribers, or 1000 email subscribers….I would choose the 1,000 email subscribers any day.
That is just my take on it.
Please feel free to comment on this.

This is so true, Melvin. I took way too long to get down to this aspect. When I started to blog, I didn’t realize that the gold would be hidden in the list, not the blog itself. Took me a while to discover this. Every single newbie should start with list building from day one.
Hi, excellent advice, the money is in the list as they say. If you are going to the effort of building a blog to atempt to make money, you may as well go a little further and set up a system to capture emails and build a list.
Steve
Great post Melvin.
Indeed the money is in the list as long as it is a list that is communicated to.
Blogging is one of the most effective ways to do that.

Hi Melvin,
I do agree it’s in the list but….
Fairly new to this I have tried various list building ideas from “the Gurus” but none of it seems to work I’ve just become sceptical about the whole thing.
I have read your articles and emails you seem to know the score about list building
Your idea about targeting traffic to get sign ups from your blog seems a good one but where do I start?
Yeah I need a blog, but I am not any good at writing articles so I hit a wall straight away and the main reason I’ve shyed away from blogging.
How do I build list building into a blog?
Any ideas? I’m sick of shelling out on ‘The Latest Thing’ all the time just to be suckered.
In fact thats why I set up my website http://www.internetguruchallenge.com where you can view my humble efforts something is wrong but I just can’t figure it out.
I would appreciate any help you can offer.
Regards
David

Hello David,
I completely understand where you are coming from. I’ve spoken to many others that have also had difficulty starting. I know for certain that the key to really getting traffic to your website and building your email list is to just do what others are doing. If you see other bloggers getting hundreds of visitors to their blog, then you need to analyze what they are doing by reverse engineering their blog. See what type of blog posts they are submitting, and then submit similar ones. Very few of us are born to recreate the wheel and come up with witty marketing ideas that promise thousands of visitors daily. You just need to see what others are doing, and go full speed ahead with mimicking their marketing process. But remember, nothing happens overnight. It takes patience, and consistency to build an internet business.
Hope that helps you out.

Hi Melvin
Thanks for the reply you are the first guru to have replied in any way to my questions!
I am not sure what you mean by reverse engineering the blogs is it complicated? What does it mean in laymans terms how do I do it. I don’t know if you visited my site: http://www.internetguruchallenge.com as you will see I’m a 54 year old bricklayer willing to be a guinea pig to any guru willing to give me a helping hand and show the other skeptics (like me) your never to old to start a new and learn from younger people. Any advice you have will greatly appreciated and as you are a list building master where better to ask first.
Once again thanks for taking the time and not being too aloof to answer my questions.
Best wishes to you and your family
